Kerbal Space Program is a space flight simulator videogame developed and published by Squad. When playing, you will have to create your own space program and make it successful. Kerbals are a race of small green creatures whose only dream is abandon the simplicity of Kerbin (their home world) and travel through space. They are not what we can call experts in engineering or aeronautics, but their willingness and enthusiasm will lead them to at least try it.
Nevertheless, don't fool yourself; the cartoon-like graphics and funny soundtrack can make you think that everything is fun and entertainment. You could not be more wrong if you fall into that trap. The game is focused on physics and real science. You must have the basics of real aeronautics to help those cute Kerbals. This way, you will be supposed to know things about gravity, centers of thrust, orbital eccentricity, inclination, etc. You need knowledge about spaceships and engineering vocabulary, too. Thus, terms such as periapsis and opoapsis will appear, as well as sections requiring trigonometry.
At first glance, it can seem easy, but Kerbal Space Program is a real flight simulator, and so, it requires serious thought, but always with the fantastic sense of humor that the Kerbal creatures provide to the game. Nevertheless, don't worry because even it requires some "difficult" knowledge, you will learn everything you need when playing, after all, it is a videogame.
Explore the universe!
Kerbal Space Program is a construction sandbox that serves as space flight simulator. You will have to put together several items to build a proper space rocket. Nevertheless, your rocket does not always work, so you will have to do numerous attempts before even thinking about sending a poor and innocent Kerbal to the "Mün". You will have to think about the design of your rocket, the items you want it to have, all the necessary elements to make it stable etc.
Kerbals are a race of small green creatures whose only dream is abandon the simplicity of Kerbin (their home world) and travel through space
Once you have planned the design, put all the pieces together and test the rocket. Put the theory into practice and watch how your rocket works. If it works as you expected, you can send a Kerbal. Take into account that gravity affects your rocket, as well as the ozone layer, the pressure, etc. Everything has to be taken into account in order for your work to be successful. Even the smallest of the changes in your design can lead to an error that causes the massive destruction of your spaceship.

A very unique and interesting space program simulator that is a must try

I recently came across a space program simulator called the Kerbal Space Program Simulator. I’ve always been interested in the different sciences and astronomy all my life, so downloading and trying out the game was a no-brainer for me. Kerbal Space Program is described by the developers’ as a space program simulator.
As the player, you’ll be in control over the space program of a race of green human-like beings called the Kerbals. Set in Kerbin, a fictitious Earth-like planet on a solar system much like our own, your goal is to create a fully functional space mission, from start to finish. This means you’ll have at your disposal, a space center or space port, space crafts, including rockets and boosters, and many other auxiliary aspects and components necessary to carry out a space mission. Space missions range from the very simple, such building a spacecraft and achieving orbit, to the very complex, such as interplanetary exploration and building of space bases.
As I played the game, I realized that it requires quite a steep learning curve, since there are many technical aspects that must be considered, especially when creating the more complex space missions. However, for those who are really interested in astronomy and space flight, Kerbal Space Program is a game that will provide hours and hours of endless fun.
- A unique space program simulator game
- Very complex game aspects mean an almost endless range of space flight scenarios
- Many of the game’s physics are not realistic
